Peshawar

The population in Peshawar is predominantly Pathan. People are loving, friendly, cooperative, and hospitable. Peshawar is one of the oldest cities in As ia and is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Pashto is spoken in and around the city, while some speak Hindko as well. The name Peshawar has been derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “City of Men”. The area basically belonged to the Gandhara and eastern Iranian tribes. For a brief period of time, it also saw Greek dominance after which the Arab conquest took place and Islam came to the rise. Peshawar is one of the most former cities on earth. It is deemed a conservative Islamic city with a great history and has all kinds of professionals and manufacturers, which includes goldsmiths, silversmiths, traditional carpets (which is one of the biggest exports of the country currently), pottery, clothing, and artwork on wood, stones, or brass. Peshawar was known for its massive 16 gates known as Rampura Gate, Reti, Kachehri, Asamai, Kabuli, Bajouri, Dabgari, Ramdas, Beriskian, Sard Chah, Sirki, Kohati, Yakka Thoot, Ganj, Lahori and Hashtnagri. It also happens to be the biggest city in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Located at 34.01 latitudes and 71.58 longitudes and at an elevation of 340 meters above sea level it lies just west of the Bara River, near the Khyber Pass. The city has an area of 1,257 km² with a population of 1.97 million. Along with being the major depot of trade with Afghanistan, Peshawar not only harbors industries but is also surrounded by lush agricultural land. The city has many famous tourist attractions. As you enter the main city, the gates of Bala Hisar fort greet you. Bazaars such as Qissa Khawani are one of the oldest not only in the city but in the whole country. Karkhanai Bazaar is also an interesting place to visit. Namak Mandi is known across the country for its charsi tikkas and Peshawari kehwa.
